1. What motivated you to create a book review blog?
What originally motivated me to create my book blog was wanting to have some kind of record of what I was reading and my thoughts on those books. I had been perusing book blogs for a while and thinking to myself how awesome they were while wondering if I could ever do that myself. Then when I started and got comments on what I was reading and people wanting to read it themselves I thought it was great and it spurred me on.
2. What do you find most rewarding about book reviewing?
Most rewarding to me is all these wonderful books I’ve gotten to read and review-a lot by new authors and many others from authors, publishers and other book bloggers. I’ve come across a lot of books I may not have before and enjoyed them so much. Secondly I’ve met so many wonderful people I now call friends. The blogging community is so much more than just people who stop by to comment and discuss a book you’ve read. For me, a lot of them have become people I care about.
3. What types of books do you review?
I love to review general fiction and historical fiction.
4. In what genre do you consider yourself to have the most expertise?
I would have to say general fiction. I love historical fiction but I’m not an expert on whether the facts are right or not, I just love the story and anthing I learn along the way so I do love to review them.
5. Is there any type of book that you absolutely will not review?
I won’t review self-help, non-fiction(although I will do a memoir if it sounds interesting to me), or business type books.
6. Do you accept submissions from self-published authors?
Yes, but only if the story sounds interesting to me, something I think I’d like to read.
7. Do you accept PDF versions or e-books for review?
This I don’t do. I don’t like to read books online due to my eyes-to hard to read for me. If an author can’t send an actual copy then no, I can’t read it.
8. Can an author guest blog for you?
Most definitely. I love when an author does a guest post or participates in an interview. I think it’s great that they take the time to share with everyone like that.
9. Do you host book giveaways?
Absolutely! I like to have one at least every week, two weeks at the most.
10. What is the average turnaround time for a review, from the time the book arrives in your mailbox until the review is posted?
I always try for a month. Sometimes things get busy and life gets in the way so on the safe side I’d like to say two-three months. When I get something from an author I like to make it a priority to read it as they were nice enough to send it to me.
11. Do you cross-post reviews to Amazon or other sites?
I post my reviews on Library Thing, Good Reads, Shelfari, Book Blogs, Chapters.ca and I will be starting to post on Amazon soon too.
12. Will you notify an author by email when a review is posted?
Yes, I do. I send them an email telling them that I’ve read their book, what I thought and the link to the review. This is only for authors who have asked me to read their books though.
13. Do you have any specific requirements for review submission?
My only requirements are that I have a hard copy of the book and also an understanding with the author that I will post an honest but fair review. If I didn’t care for a book I will say so. I believe in being honest with those reading my blog.
14. Where can authors submit review queries and to whom should they be addressed?
Review queries can be sent to Darlene (Dar) at bj19662001
