1. What motivated you to create a book review blog?
Early in 2005 I found a livejournal site (I think) where people were posting about the books they read, with the goal of reading and posting about 50 a year. I thought it sounded like a neat idea, so I started posting about what I was reading on my personal blog. After a couple of years, I realized I was posting about books as much or more than I was posting about other stuff on my blog, so I decided to launch it as it’s own animal. 2009 will mark my 5th year blogging about books!
2. What do you find most rewarding about book reviewing?
I like reading about what other people are reading, and how they felt about it, and I hope I can provide that for other people too. I have discovered hundreds of new books and authors since I started doing this. Also, it helps me keep track of what I’ve read.
3. What types of books do you review?
I review everything I read. The genres I read most are suspense/thriller/mystery, historical fiction, general/literary fiction, and I’m starting to branch out a little more into paranormal fiction.
4. In what genre do you consider yourself to have the most expertise?
Suspense, in its many forms, is what I read the most.
5. Is there any type of book that you absolutely will not review?
I’m not a fan of verse, though I do pick one up every once in a while, and I don’t read a lot of non-fiction. However, if the book sounds interesting to me, I may be willing to give it a shot.
6. Do you accept submissions from self-published authors?
Yes.
7. Do you accept PDF versions or e-books for review?
Yes.
8. Can an author guest blog for you?
I’ve never done a guest blog post, but I would be open to it.
9. Do you host book giveaways?
Yes.
10. Do you interview authors?
No.
11. Do you ever host stops on an organized book tour?
I haven’t.
12. What is the average turnaround time for a review, from the time the book arrives in your mailbox until the review is posted?
This varies widely. If something is sent to me by an actual person (as opposed to me filling out a form on a web site or something like that), I do my best to move it up in the queue and get it read as quickly as possible. But I admit I have some ARCs that have been hanging around my house for a few months.
13. Do you cross-post reviews to Amazon or other sites?
Yes. I post my reviews on Shelfari, Goodreads, LibraryThing, Amazon, and Facebook.
14. Will you notify an author by email when a review is posted?
I try to!
15. Do you have any specific requirements for review submission?
Nope.
16. Where can authors submit review queries and to whom should they be addressed?
They can send them to me (Jaime) at ibeforem.
