1. What motivated you to create a book review blog?
I read a lot [on pace to read 250 books this year]. I often go in for less popular stuff not much for best-sellers. So I figured people might be interested.
2. What do you find most rewarding about book reviewing?
When I hear that someone has used one of my reviews to find a book for a family member that’s hard to shop for.
3. What types of books do you review?
As the title of the blog would suggest mostly military history and current affairs. I’ve been reading more fiction as of late spy novels, mystery, science fiction, fantasy and humor. I’ve even been known to read the occasional young adult book.
4. In what genre do you consider yourself to have the most expertise?
Military history.
5. Is there any type of book that you absolutely will not review?
Horror, chicklit and inspirational.
6. Do you accept submissions from self-published authors?
Certainly I am more comfortable doing it if there is a PR person that acts as an intermediary but, self-published is ok.
7. Do you accept PDF versions or e-books for review?
No.
8. Can an author guest blog for you?
I haven’t had any do that yet but I’m not against the idea.
9. Do you host book giveaways?
No
10. Do you interview authors?
Haven’t but I’d consider it.
11. Do you ever host stops on an organized book tour?
Yes I’ve done one in the past. I’d do it again.
12. What is the average turnaround time for a review, from the time the book arrives in your mailbox until the review is posted?
When books arrive they are put at the top of the to be read pile. I usually have a review up within 3 days at most a week.
13. Do you cross-post reviews to Amazon or other sites?
Yes Librarything. I’ll also mention it in the relevant “what are you reading” thread if the book is on a subject that matches up with a group I’m a member of.
14. Will you notify an author by email when a review is posted?
Yes always do.
15. Do you have any specific requirements for review submission?
I’m in Canada so you have to be willing to ship it. Please include a description of the book so I don’t have to go out to Amazon and try to look it up.
16. Where can authors submit review queries and to whom should they be addressed?
